  28.      up on a warm boot when an AB was providing expanded memory. This was
  29.      caused by the EGA BIOS ROM in old AT's.  Adding "EXPF=C400" solves the
  30.      problem.

  32.  HERCULES GRAPHICS PLUS

  34.      *FIELD REPORTS* of compatibility with Above Boards.

  36.      Tech Notes:
  37.      This video board from Hercules supposedly speeds up scrolling in Word
  38.      3.0, speeds up Framework II, and improves Lotus 123 by adding a pop-up
  39.      menu, speeding up scrolling, and increasing the amount of data per
  40.      screen. It has one problem -- you can't use a mouse with the Hercules
  41.      driver that allows these features.
  42.  
  43.      No AB problems have been reported with this board in general, however,
  44.      if any of Hercules' RAM font drivers are being used, then Quikbuf
  45.      cannot use the pop-up menu and must be installed with the `o'
  46.      parameter.  If no RAM font drivers are being used, then the pop-up
  47.      should work just fine with the `h' option of Quikbuf.
  48.  
  49.      If Microsoft WORD is being used with the /h parameter, then use the `o'
  50.      option for Quikbuf.

  52.  HERCULES VGA

  56.      Tech Notes:
  57.      In one customer's system, with AB Plus base I/O address set to 258 the
  58.      AT gave "Parity Check 2 ?????" on Warm Boot ONLY.  No error on Cold
  59.      Boot or when SETBOARD rebooted the system.  Happened with EMM loaded or
  60.      not. Changed I/O address on AB Plus to 208 and it worked.

  62.      General Info: 8 bit board, no switches or jumpers. It "appears" to be
  63.      in autodetect mode by default, which can only be changed by loading
  64.      device drivers on boot, (that's how the customer understood it).

  86.      Cannot use ANY 128K memory expansion board in AT system when EGA is
  87.      used with Enhanced 5250 Emulator software.

  91.  IBM EGA & QUIKBUF

  93.      With QUIKBUF software that shipped with EMM versions earlier than 4.0,
  94.      it will be necessary to disable the QUIKBUF pop-up menu when using an
  95.      EGA Adapter.  (Put `o' in quikbuf command line.). With QUIKBUF software
  96.      that shipped with versions 4.0 and higher, a parameter was added so the
  97.      pop-up menu can be supported, (put an "e" on the command line).

  99.  IBM MONOCHROME BOARD

  101.      Compatible with Above Boards.

  103.      Tech Note:
  104.      There's a parallel port on most versions of these video cards. Parallel
  105.      port address = 3BC.  (ALWAYS LPT1: IF PRESENT IN SYSTEM!)

  107.  IBM VGA & AB PLUS
  108.  
  109.      The IBM VGA board uses the address space from C0000-CBFFF. Even though
  110.      the board uses the entire C0000-CBFFF range, the memory locations from
  111.      C8000-CBFFF appear to be unused by the Above Board programs INSTALL,
  112.      SOFTSET, and EMM. It is therefore necessary to manually edit the
  113.      EMM.SYS device driver line to relocate the expanded memory page frame
  114.      to CC00 or D000.
  115.  
  116.  MG VGA (1024 X 768) 8514 COMPATIBLE
  117.  
  118.      We have customer reports of compatibility with the MG VGA board itself.
  119.      However there is also a driver provided with this board that runs in
  120.      Expanded memory for use with Autocad.  We have a report that this
  121.      driver may not work with our board in some fast 286 computers.
  122.  
  123.      The MG VGA uses registers 2E8 to 2ED, and has a BIOS switchable between
  124.      C800 to CA00, or D800 to DA00.
  125.  
  126.      This VGA board is 16-bit through the Data Bus, but only does an 8-bit
  127.      access through the ROM, so there is no need to put this board into an
  128.      8-bit mode or into an 8-bit slot.

  130.  NEC MONOGRAPH BOARD
  131.  
  132.      *FIELD REPORTS* of compatibility with Above Boards.

  134.      Tech Notes:
  135.      Compatible with ABs using Classic Bus (EMM 4.0 rev C) with EXPF=D000 to
  136.      confine EMM's page frame.  AB Plus and original Plus EMM 4.0 using
  137.      EXPF=D000 also work.

  139.      Incompatible with EMM 4.0 Rev A and B, will work with EMM 3.2.
  140.  
  141.      The original EMM 4.0 does a check through reserved memory which writes
  142.      over the Monograph ROM information, causing it to lock up. Classic Bus
  143.      EMM, May 89, combined the AB 4.0 Rev B with the AB Plus 4.0. Original
  144.      Plus EMM 4.0 works only on AB Plus boards.

  146.  NEC VGA 16BIT
  147.  
  148.      *Field Reports* of limited compatibility with Above Boards. There are
  149.      no compatibility issues at all if the Above Board is just providing
  150.      extended or conventional memory. If the AB is providing Expanded
  151.      memory, there will be a 16bit reserved memory access conflict, and the
  152.      NEC board would need to be put into 8-bit mode.
  153.  
  154.      If the NEC video adapter did a true 16bit access of reserved memory
  155.      there would be no need to put the NEC adapter into 8bit mode, but since
  156.      this adapter fluctuates between 8- and 16-bit reserved memory accesses
  157.      there isn't another work-a-round.

  159.  NUMBER NINE GRAPHICS BOARD

  161.      *Field Reports* of compatibility with Above Boards.

  163.      Tech Notes:
  164.      Even though this graphics board is supposed to be an  8-bit board, it
  165.      acts as if it is running into a 16bit reserved memory access conflict
  166.      with this card installed.
  167.  
  168.      SYMPTOM:  When AB is in the system (with or without EMM), the #9 board
  169.      isn't recognized.
  170.  
  171.      SOLUTION:  Tell Setboard 10 or 12 MHz.

  177.      *FIELD REPORTS* of limited compatibility with Above Boards.

  179.      This 16-bit VGA board causes a 16bit reserved memory access conflict
  180.      with an Above Board providing expanded memory, since this VGA doesn't
  181.      access reserved memory in a true 16bit fashion (it fluctuates between
  182.      8- and 16-bit reserved memory accesses). This adapter has no switch for
  183.      8-bit ROM BIOS.  To work with an Above Board providing expanded memory,
  184.      you must install this video board in a 8-bit slot.  Also, you MUST add
  185.      EXPF=C800 (assuming there's no other ROMs present) or the system will
  186.      lock up when EMM tries to load! Above Boards providing Extended memory
  187.      work fine with these video cards.

  189.  VGA MEMORY USAGE
  190.  
  191.      Some general info:
  192.  
  193.      VGA's in general use ALL of A0000 to BFFFF for video data. These guys
  194.      tend to be in EGA mode most of the time because software has to be
  195.      rewritten to use REAL VGA capabilities. There are more and more REAL
  196.      VGA applications being written daily.
  197.  
  198.      VGA mode itself has several modes i.e. 640 x 480 w/sixteen colors, 320
  199.      x 200 w/256 colors (WOW the shading) and some others.
  200.  
  201.      The VGA board has TWO eproms located at C0000 to C7FFF which in effect
  202.      is an extention of EGA (EGA used C0000 to C3FFF) so we can forget about
  203.      the lower half of the C0000 area for use when providing expanded (LIM
  204.      EMS) memory.
  205.  
  206.      Most VGA boards occupies (not necessarily always uses) the area from
  207.      A0000 to C7FFF (160k!).
  208.  
  209.      IBM 's VGA in the PS/2 machines don't occupy the C0000 to C7FFF area
  210.      because the BIOS supports it directly.
  211.  
  212.  ORCHID PRODESIGNER PLUS VGA
  213.  
  214.      *Field Reports* of compatibility with Above Boards. There is one
  215.      potential conflict when the Above Board is set up to provide expanded
  216.      (LIM EMS) memory:
  217.  
  218.      ■   This VGA card uses a 32k area that the Above Board can use, from
  219.          C0000 - C7FFFh.
  220.  
  221.  HERCULES HPRINT UTILITY & QUIKBUF
  222.  
  223.      The Hercules HPRINT utility uses Shift-PrtSc key combination, which
  224.      interferes directly with the QUIKBUF pop-up menu (QUIKBUF also uses
  225.      Shift-PrtSc).  If you want to use the QUIKBUF pop-up menu, put the
  226.      QUIKBUF command (with the Hercules option) before HGC PRINT command in
  227.      the AUTOEXEC.BAT file.  Then use the HPRINT sequence of Shift-PrtSc-
  228.      Spacebar to pop-up the QUIKBUF menu.
  229.  
  230.      NOTE:  HPRINT uses Shift-PrtSc-0 or Shift-PrtSc-1 to print graphics
  231.      screens. Using one of these on a text screen will lock up the computer.
  232.  
  233.      HPRINT only works with Epson RX, MX, or IBMGraph printers.  Using
  234.      another printer may also lock up the computer.
